NEW YORK (May 10th, 2017) – GPS are pleased to announce the extension of its partnership with Legendary German soccer club, FC Bayern Munich.
The extensive partnership, which began in 2014, has seen the FC Bayern Youth Academy provide consistent technical and methodological oversight to GPS clubs throughout North America and the extension will see FC Bayern coaches double their presence in in the U.S. to eight weeks. These visits will be spent exchanging best practices, providing curriculum and methodology support, conducting Player Identification programming and a soon to be introduced coaching certification.
The flagship program within the partnership is the FC Bayern Player ID Centers that are hosted throughout North America in conjunction with GPS and FC Bayern affiliate clubs. This program culminates in 2-4 players annually chosen to go on trial in Germany following selection at summer Residential ID Events by FC Bayern staff. This summer's Residential programs will be held in Georgia, Maine and California. The alliance will also include the GPS FC Bayern National Team program which pulls the best talent at various age groups to compete in tournaments both at home and abroad.
“This partnership has gone from strength to strength,” commented FC Bayern Munich President of the Americas, Rudolf Vidal. “We set out to work at a grassroots level with GPS to grow soccer in the U.S. and I’m pleased to say that we’ve not only seen substantial growth in the program but we’ve also been able to help develop young players with our philosophy,” he added.
CEO of GPS, Joseph Bradley said: "FC Bayern’s Youth Academy has produced a number of world-class players. The coaching education and opportunities for our kids have been incredible and through our innovative player identification programming we have, so far, identified eight young players who have been to Germany to train with the FC Bayern youth teams.”
This is FC Bayern’s first partnership outside of Germany of this nature and is part of their new International Strategy that included the opening of an office in New York earlier in 2014.
